Articles: PNphpBB2-p4 Ready for Testers, Upgrade Instructions, Further Release Plan

As most of you already might have recognized: We are late in our release plan looking at what we have planned 6 months ago. This is why I thought an update together with a new package to test would be nice:

PNphpBB2-p4 is almost ready and will hopefully be our latest bug fix release on phpbb2 code base. Please get the latest stuff in a zipped download directly from SVN here, test it and report any issues you might have with it. It should install, upgrade, remove and run error-free on Zikula 1.0.3 and 1.1.x, and will be supported with security and bug fixes for the life time of those Zikula versions mentioned. No development takes place any more on this module, though. It will become legacy with the final Zafenio 1.0 release.

Notice: There is no Zikula upgrade from 0.764 to 1.x supported with PNphpBB2 activated, because of too many possible problems based on different versions, php-restrictions and forum size! Instead, make sure you use latest PNphpBB2 (see above), backup your forum tables from the database (you may ommit sessions and wordlists in order to reduce the size of the backup), de-install the forum, do your upgrade to latest Zikula, install and activate PNphpBB2, and finally play back in your forum database tables.

Simultaniously work on Zafenio 1.0 based on phpbb3 code is going on, and does already show some exiting new features. We got rid of the duplicate user and session tables, and use those from Zikula core instead. We will ship the module with an adapted proSilver theme, which can be adapted to your site using the new technologie from CorolizeIt. Most other themes for phpbb3 will integrate fine, too. And - starting with Zikula 1.2 - you will have the option to use the full forum profile as your user profile all over Zikula!

Zafenio will also come with full UTF-8 support and several languages packages.

I am planning a first public beta in 6-8 weeks, but this still depends very much on how successful I am in bringing back as much as possible developers/contributors/translators into the project. Of course I will keep you all informed.

Greetings,

Chris
